We all have our own ideas of beauty, and this may be influenced by the current beauty standards, or perhaps the people we’re surrounded by, but we all have a vision, regardless of where it comes from. For some people, this may be thick eyebrows, for others it may be long, luscious and black eyelashes, or for some, it’s fair, glowy skin. This is a feature which any people strive to achieve, and it’s can be very difficult to do so, not to mention the risk and danger that some products marketed for this purpose can propose. So, if you want to achieve fair skin naturally, here are a few methods.
Use a sunscreen
Perhaps it goes without saying, but using a sunscreen is by far the most effective way you can maintain a fairer complexion once you’ve achieved it, which is very important, as it reduces your chances significantly of developing a tan. As the sunscreen shields your skin from the potential damage that UV rays can cause, it’s doing its best to minimise their interaction with the skin cells completely. This will reduce the chance of the melanocytes, small structure beneath the skin, being stimulated to produce melanin, the pigment which darkens skin.
At the same time as you’re keeping your complexion fairer and preventing any of your skin from darkening, you’re also protecting it from damage, which is essential anyway. In order to maintain healthy, damage-free skin, you need to take proper care of it, and wearing your sunscreen daily will do this, and your complexion will be much more evenly toned in general. So, if you want to protect your skin at the same time as you lighten it, sunscreen is your ticket.
Cinnamon and honey remedy
If you’re looking for a DIY home remedy that you can create as a natural alternative to potentially dangerous, risky skin whitening creams, this cinnamon and honey face mask may just be the perfect option for you. Cinnamon is a very powerful ingredients and, while you may not have heard of using it for this purpose, it can be used for lightening the skin. It’s also rich in antioxidants which can help to even the complexion and fade away any acne scars, blemishes or dark spots. Honey has great anti-bacterial properties, too, meaning it can effectively soothe the skin and it has exfoliating properties to help lighten the complexion, too.
All you need to do is grab the two ingredients and a bowl, place around half a teaspoon of the honey and a very tiny amount of cinnamon on top of it before mixing them together and spreading it across the face. Be careful, as the mixture may be sticky, and wait for 5-15 minutes for the skin to absorb the properties of these ingredients before rinsing with lukewarm water.
Exfoliation is a very quick, easy way to maintain a smooth skin tone, and it can also make your skin fairer. Essentially, it removes any dead skin cells from the top of the skin, revealing the new, healthy ones underneath. This can make the skin seem fairer as it’s much more balanced and can also even out the skin tone where there may be some pigmentation over time. Not to mention, the new skin cells will be fairer as they haven’t been exposed to the Sun like the old ones have.
Yoghurt and honey
Another treatment which you can create at home, the yoghurt and honey masque will lighten your skin through the use of lactic acid and vitamin B complex, which come from the milk. The lactic acid is effective at lightening your skin, as well as reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as it’s nutritious for the skin to repair itself, and the vitamin B complex allows your skin to appear brighter and glowier, as it is another valuable nutrient for the skin. Plus, the honey is great for soothing the complexion and is another agent for glowy, healthy-looking and youthful skin.
All you need to do is grab some plain yoghurt and soe honey and mix two teaspoons of the yoghurt with one teaspoon of the honey in a bowl. If you’re looking to create more than one portion of this, scale up the ingredients to however much you’d like, but maintain a 2:1 ration between the yoghurt and honey, respectively. Once mixed, apply the paste to your face, wait 15 minutes and rinse with cool or lukewarm water.
Plenty of sleep, water and good nutrition
Although this trick my not be the fastest way to achieve a lighter complexion itself, it certainly is a great way to look after your body and maintain a brighter complexion, which will appear much fairer and more balanced. When you drink enough water, your body is fully hydrated and your skin is much more flawless and moisturised, so you won’t suffer from cracked or dry areas, and good nutrition can help to clear your skin and even the texture and tones, too. Plus, getting plenty of sleep will prevent undereye circles and bags, both of which you want to avoid for a fair complexion.
Lemon juice, honey and milk remedy
The final at home, DIY skin-lightening remedy, this mixture of lemon juice, honey and ilk is made of ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen, making it accessible and practical to create at any time. Lemon juice includes citric acid, which is a strong active acid often used for exfoliation, and has bleaching properties, making it a great way to lighten your skin using natural ingredients. Honey is another source of lactic acid, much like yoghurt, and the honey is once again useful for its skin soothing properties.
Just place one tablespoon of ilk in a bowl, along with a teaspoon of honey and a tablespoon of lemon juice before mixing them all together into a thin paste. Apply the masque onto freshy cleansed skin for maximum benefits, allow to sit for 20 minutes, and rinse off with warm water before gently patting the face dry. As the citric acid does exfoliate your skin, it’s even more important that you remember to wear your SPF after using this masque, as your skin is more vulnerable to Sun damage.
